I know that this is a day late, but I wanted to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! Our holiday was really great. Lots of Family, Lots of Food, and Lots of Fun! I am so thankful this year for my amazing, beautiful girls, my awesome, supportive, sexy hubbie, great family, and the best friends a girl can wish for! I am also thankful for you my dear readers! It always makes my day when I get to read comments and thoughts from you. All in all, it has been an amazing year full of challenges and blessing and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. God really does bless us, even in the hard times! Now I wish I could say that I took a bunch of pictures yesterday, but I didn’t. Somehow I never remember to take them on thanksgiving! But here are some of the kids decorating turkey cookies!
Today, instead of shopping with the crowds, I cleaned my house and shopped online. I dont know about you but that makes things a wee bit more simple! However this is not all we did! My hubbie decided to blow up some leftover pumpkins up and then surprised us with some fireworks! Yes,,,,I am serious! My whole family came and brought hot chocolate (it is really cold here), and I found some Chinese lanterns in our basement! I have to say that it was alot of fun and I think it may be a new thing! So here are some pictures of the first annual Bright Friday! Who doesnt love fireworks!
So there you have it! Traditions new and old! Now we are on to Christmas! It is looking like there will be lots of handmade wonderfulness here! So I will do my best to show off what we make! Plus I have a party to plan for the 6th of Dec. So there is LOTS going on here! I hope you had a great day today and yesterday! Happy Thanksgiving!
Today it SNOWED! Ok…last night it snowed, but it was still around this morning so we had to go and play in it! The girls were just too excited to! It was pretty, it was cold, and it was so special! Here are the pictures!
Isn’t the first snow magical? I think so! There is something very exciting about playing in the same old backyard when it is covered in a wee bit of snow! It just makes everything better! 🙂 Happy Snow Day Everyone!
Frolicking…..what a fun word! Perfect for the random trip to the park we took today! We had a funeral to attend things morning and some errands to run this afternoon. In between these things, we had some time. We were driving past a park and thought that we would stop and play for a bit! I happened to have my camera with me and the lighting was amazing for some simple happy fall pictures of the girls! Even Daddy played with us! As you notice, fall has really set in here and the leaves are almost off the trees. We also have some winter chill starting to set it for the season! The northern winds are starting to hit us and it is time for warm coats and probably mittens! Now if only I can convince Pup that she needs to wear that stuff! 😉
So there you have it! I hope that you plan on having an amazing weekend! We’re going to be busy here! Happy Fall Y’all! 😉
For all of you non-scrappers out there, today is International Digital Scrapbook Day! I LOVE this day because it means that all of my favorite places to shop for scrapbooking goodies are having HUGE sales! 😉 I spend a lot of time working really hard making sure that our family memories are preserved forever for the girls to look at whenever they want! There is something so special about seeing my girls sitting cuddled up in a chair and reliving their own history. In fact this is one of the things that has been taking my time away from my dear readers here! In fact in honor of DSD, I thought you would like to see some of the pages I made from the pictures of Bunny as a baby! I scrapped them with paper and glue way back then, but the albums were falling apart from over reading and I wanted to take those 35mm pics and turn them into digital images to preserve them forever! After, what If there was a fire or something like that! Yikes! So here are some of the pages from her very first year!
I also thought that maybe you would like to see some other pages I made for a few other scrapbooks I have been working on! You see I have been busy! 😉 I truly love to do this and honestly it is one of my big passions! I love making pictures tat we take into beautiful books full of the best moments of our lives!
So there you have it! This is what keeps my time taken up! Now I know that you are dying to know where I get my graphics for these amazing pages! Sweet Shoppe Designs is my go to place! Their designers are super talented and so awesome! It is like scrapbooking with paper, just less expensive, less messy, and a wee bit faster sometimes! I hope you enjoyed seeing my favorite hobby! Happy Digital Scrapbook Day! What is your favorite hobby?
Well it is the day after Halloween, so that means it is All Saints Day here! We started the day off with Mass and then I took the girls out for a mini celebration! We brought our saint book with us and read them over our “coffee” (whipped cream) and bagels! The girls loved it and it really inspired Bunny to want to know more about her patron saints! We of course looked them up and she just fell in love with the whole idea that there are saint out there she can ask pray for her! Both the saints we found were teachers and nuns. I think that she is happy to find helpers for when that school work gets really tricky! Maria Montessori observed that children in the ages of 6-12 really desire and NEED heroes that they can look up to! They want to have someone special that inspires them! I think that saints are an awesome place to start! They are literally hundreds of amazing real stories of people doing amazing things for others around them and for God. These are things that I want to my girls to emulate and make a part of their lives, so knowing people who have lived this way and know that they are real leave such a deep impression! If you are looking for a place to start this Lives of the Saints book Bunny has is really beautiful! It is a great place to start! If you have littler ones, I really love the Alphabet of Catholic Saints is an awesome book too! For First Communion, I read Bunny the book about Blessed Imelda and this was a real turning point for her! She realized how special making her first communion was and she really started to grow closer to Jesus in her own personal prayer. It is amazing what a good book can do! So I wish you all a happy Saints Day! My all the saints in heaven pray for blessings for all of you!
PS. In case you are wondering if we skipped Halloween, I assure you we didn’t! The high winds and icky rain made all the cities around postpone Halloween fun to Sunday night! I promise you pumpkins, candy and costumes then! I hope you all had a fun holiday!
Today we finally made it to the pumpkin farm! It took us till the last minute, but it turned out to be perfect after all! The day was warm and beautiful and the kids were more then ready for some fall fun! I took a few of my brothers and sisters (the ones who can walk) and we headed out! We were able to get an hay ride from an awesome farmer who just happened to have a moment to take us (the regular driver was still at school)! The kids ran through the corn maze, fed the goats, and played in the corn pit! It was a lot of fun and a really good chance for my siblings to get out of the house (with so many broken bits, no one is going anywhere really)! We ended out trip by getting a dozen of their amazing doughnuts! Here are some pictures of our fun!
So there you have it! Fall fun for all! 😉 We are lucky to have such a great pumpkin farm near our house and the chance to get them each year! So what about you? Do you have a favorite way to celebrate the season/
I have been floundering a bit with the direction of this blog and about even keeping it going. I just feel like we are not doing anything interesting or “blog worthy” and that makes it hard to write posts. I mean, do you want to see the little stuff that is going on here or do you just want to see school stuff? The school stuff is happening, but really sporatically and honestly with so much book work happening here it seems silly to show too many school days posts. After all they all start to look the same! So today I thought that with all the busyness and lack of projects, the grils needed some fun with mom (and I needed a blog post)! I have seem montester cookies all over Pintrest and I just knew that this simple Halloween snack was going to be a hit! 🙂 The recipe that I saw used cake mix (which I didn’t have). So I just made a chocolate chip cookie recipe with out the chocolate chips! It worked out really well! The girls loved it and we made green and purple monsters!
After making cookies it was off to bed. While Bunny was getting into bed, she told me that she was just so happy. Happy that we got to make cookies. Hmmmm….she was so happy that we got to make cookies! She got me thinking that this was a really simple, little thing. Honestly it only took a few minutes of time with them, but the impact was much bigger then I realized. She was happy about the cookies. I didn’t need to go anywhere special, or do anything big, just something little. After all that is what we remember most about life. When it all comes down to it, our most treasured memories are simple. A look, a moment, a hug, a walk….all simple things that mean the world to us. The same is true for our families. Why do we torture ourselves to create a perfect moment for our kids, filled with projects, learning opportunities, and a million things? I am slowly learning that kids are going to learn, play, and grow no matter what I plan out for them. So long as they have access to things that allow them to grow, and can come to me with questions, they will learn and be happy. I don’t see each thing that happens, but I do know that things are being thought about. I have been trying to make sure that I am taking more pictures of their daily moments, but I don’t always remember to. That make it hard to share. So how does this connect with my blog thoughts? Well, I don’t feel like I am doing things here that you are going to be interested in reading. I am not making awesome themes, we aren’t taking trips out and about too much, and we have done a lot of crafting or projects. So what is there to share with you? Not much….unless you want to see pictures of kids playing outside, building blocks, or other unrelated things. So while I am not doing anything note worthy by internet standards, we are doing simple things that are going to make memories for my girls. So I am going as you all to send some prayer and good thoughts to little ol’ me while I am working out how the simple things translate into my blog.
We have been crazy busy this week! My brother broke his ankle and needed some surgery. My other brother broke his foot (I am not kidding, it has been interesting)! So between helping my mom shuttle people to the doctor, making dinners, and doing some school work, we have been all over the place. However, we have made some discoveries, and really had some fun despite everything! So here are some of the things we have been up to this week!
The girls are really into playing with their dollhouse. I got it out last week for the first time in a while and they were so excited!
Pup is discovering double diget numbers! She told me some of the numbers on calendar and she did a great job!
Here is my bro prepping for surgery. Poor guy. Pup has decided though that his lap is still a great place to sit.
After all, he cant go anywhere and he can still read! 😉
I found a recipe for homemade Frappuccino! Life changing! I literally made three of these this week!
We also made apple nachos! Ummmm…..also amazing!
There was also some random crafty fun!
All in all it was great week despite the craziness! We still had fun and learned a lot! This week is going to be just as crazy, but I hope just as fun! I hope you all had a great week too! What were some of the happy moments of your week?
Yesterday I took the girls to the park to test my photography skills. They turned out pretty well. I even tried my hand at a little photoshop. Now please bear in mind that these are just a big trial! My photoshop skills are limited to a couple of online videos and some messing around! I took a ton of pictures! The poor girls were pretty tired by the end, but I rewarded them with time at the park so they were happy! Here are a few of the pictures I have edited. Let me know what you think!
So there you have it! I think my darling are just too cute! I have clearly discovered that my photography abilities and editing abilities are needing a bit more work, but I do like how they turned out. It is a lot of work and I really just have to say that the professionals that take the amazing photos you see really do an amazing job making those pictures beautiful! They are artists! I have to say that it made me feel so good t really take the time to do something creative that I have been wanting to do for a long time. It is such an amazing thing to be creative and make things beautiful. It our way of sharing our joy, love, and heart with the world around us. I really have been thinking a lot about how much I need to be creative and something I realized is that it is not just me. The world needs to be creative. Even the prehistoric people all around the world took time to make beautiful things. Even in the mist of surviving and hunting and all the things that they needed to do, they still made jewelry and painted walls. It is a part of being a human. So I hope you have taken time to be creative this week for yourself this week!
Today was the start for a great week! The girls worked really hard at all their work and we got a lot done. However, there are not a ton of pictures. Why you may ask, well because their work is getting pretty boring to photograph. No offence to the girls, but work books, and reading just starts to look the same no matter what day I take the picture. So that leads me to wonder about what I can share here on the blog. Do I talk about the day to day work that is really rather boring unless there is new discoveries and adventures. So I think that is what this is going to be about. New discoveries and adventures, with just a smattering of boring same old same old! After all, Montessori work and homeschooling Is ever evolving so there is bound to be lots of all of those things! So what are some new discoveries that have been happening here? Well Pup have been beading her own jewelry, Bunny has been learning to drive the tractor, and I have been learning all sorts of things about how to take better pictures! Here are some pictures:
These are the little things that are making life our own special adventure. The girls are learning things as they find joy in their own projects. Pup is practicing her coordination with her beading along with sorting and patterns. Bunny is learning about how things run and how to drive (with Daddy’s guidance of course). These are real skills and real learning. This is Montessori learning at its best. Child based, interest led, and exciting! Sometimes I find it really hard to see what we are doing or if we are really doing ANYTHING. Its that feeling that says we haven’t done anything pintrest worthy here in a long time. After all we haven’t don’t a craft project, or cooked an amazing meal together, or gone on a hike together. We are just here, doing normal everyday things, and it is enough. It is learning, it is special, and it is discovery moments here in our house! How does discovery happen in your home? Does it look Pintrest worthy or is it just plain everyday stuff?
