I saw this project at easter time and I really wanted to try it out! So I enlisted the help of my mom and we made some really beautiful rainbow yarn! What we did was we went to Michael’s to get some wool yarn (yes it was such a sacrifice to go to the craft store 😉 ) Then we got some easter egg dye and the kids and dyed the wool! It was a HUGE mess, but alot of fun! Everyone got involved (all my brothers and sister, and my kids). It was a great project, but it is hard for the kids to do. If you want to see some more detailed directions you can see them at Small Things and Keep On Spinning and In the Heart of My Home. Ours turned out a little lighter then I wanted it too, but it is still so beautiful! We all love it! In fact there has been so many requests for things knitted, that we have to make more! Since my mom is the only good knitter, it will depend on how fast she can knit! 🙂 Here are the pictures of out yarn!
Well I finally finished it! The tent that I promised to show you and promised my girls they could play in! I got it all put together and they LOVE it! It is so cute and the perfect size for a hideaway! They played in it inside and out today. I love that I can move it easily and it fold around the poles. I made it using Meg McElwee’s book Growing Up Sew Liberated. It was pretty easy to put together and I love the detailed directions. Plus there are a ton of other amazing projects. I do recommend it if you are looking for a fun project! Here are the pictures of the tent!
Today we took a quick morning trip to the beach to play! It was very spur of the moment and the girls had so much fun! We decided that it was too much nice to stay inside and I wanted to take a walk, but the girls were not interested! So I packed them up and we headed to the beach with our sand toys and some towels! It was a really peaceful and beautiful outside! I loved having the time to just sit and let the kids play. Here are the pictures of our morning of fun! 🙂
The girls have been stuck in the house alot because of the heat (it was 105 today) so they have been playing alot together! The Melissa and Doug set that we won is still in the house (too hat to make a sand box) and it has inspired the kids to have a party! Pup and Bunny put together quite a feast for me, and their “kids”! They set up our whole back room as a house. They had a kitchen, a pantry, and even a sink! I loved it! Here are the pictures I took at the Party!
Today is the start to a very HOT week! We are expecting temps in the high 90s with high humidity! Ugh! Thank God for air conditioning. So to take advantage of the cooler morning, we headed to my moms for some more swimming practice (ok…mostly fun)! The kids love to play in the pool and it was such a great summery moment!
I have been working really hard with Bunny to get her swimming. She has been afraid to go into the water and just sits on the steps of my mom’s pool (playing happily of course). She was too afraid of how deep the water is (my mom’s pool is 5ft all the way across). So I took her to a pool that had a shallower end and she could touch in, and that did the trick! She was so happy to kick around on a kick board! Then I took her to my mom’s the next day and I told her that she could kick around the same way with swimmies. She said that she really wasn’t going to. So I told her that she could earn a badge (this is a new thing that we are doing this summer and is also a cornerstone of my plan for the school year, but more on that later). The badge idea made her think, and before long she was a little fish all over the pool! We are all so proud of her! She did amazing! Then, it got better, Pup also got brave enough to swim without being held. I always have swimmies on both of them, but Pup didn’t want to free float. After watching my sister (age 18mos) who will swim like a fish and Bunny who got brave enough to swim, she went for it, and LOVED it! 🙂 She was also swimming like a fish! It was great! Both my little ones are swimming! I am so proud of them! Here are the pictures of them in the pool! (sorry about how bad the pics are, I only had my phone on me and the glare was awful!)
