Montessori Monday~ Grammar Boards
I have been thinking a lot about the grammar lessons and I came up with a plan that I think that Bunny is going to love! As you know I didn’t make the traditional grammar boxes because they are a lot of work and bunny wouldn’t use them anyway. However, she does love to play with the grammar farm. My only problem with the farm is that it takes so much time to set up, that she is done with it before she gets to making many sentences. So I thought that she really needed something that was simpler, but something that still is fun! After all, you don’t have to have a farm. It can be anything so long as you get a chance to practice grammar! So I decided that I could combine her grammar, writing, and geography all in one. I started by pulling all of the animals out of the continent boxes and put them all in a basket. The I made 6 different boards depicting different biomes made of felt. Finally I typed out different word cards for the different parts of speech using animals, biome words, and places. My goal is for Bunny to use these like the grammar farm to build sentence and understand how the different parts work together! Here is what our new work looks like!
So that is our plan for right now. I think she is going to love playing with her grammar! Plus this is going to help with our vocabulary and our copy work! What do you think? Do you think this is a good plan? What are your favorite grammar works?

oh, I love these! Literally at this very moment I am cutting, labeling, laminating etc. for some DIY homemade grammar boxes which I am excited about, but I have two kiddos that have only had abstract experience so I am ‘going backwards’ with them again to give them a chance to see what they have already learned in a more literal form. That being said, I am trying to get a few good ways to use grammar and word cards/symbols so that they can catch up and move forward quickly, and have fun doing it! I am going to have to remember this and maybe do something very similar with some of our small objects! Thanks for sharing this great idea!

Wow! Amy that is great! We have not really done any good grammar work. It seems like it was one of the works that slipped through the cracks so to speak! However, Bunny really is not a fan of moving cards around. She never has been, so we are doing grammat box work on the chalk board and using it for copy work. So far it is working out. But I wanted something that she could “play” with for school work. This I think will fill that need! Let me know if you make some! I cant wait to see your grammar boxes! They are a lot of work! My oldest is the same way – she loves all of our small things, and although she should be moving into upper elementary grammar, I think I am going to go with ides and see how far I can get with it – I will definitely have to share!

That was kinda how I felt about it too! The goal is to learn the grammar and whether she does younger Montessori work or older, she still needs to learn it! We will see how it goes! I hope it works out!

Thanks MBT! It is easier then the grammar farm and there is less set up! The thing with girls, especially Bunny, is that setting up is all the fun! So by the time she spent a 20 minutes getting it right, she was not interested in the work! lol This way she has less to play with, but it is still fun! Plus, there is more variety! Awesome! I had a similar idea…all sketched out, but not completed. Thanks for sharing yours! We are making play mats for a rainforest, forest, beach/ocean, farm, desert. I like your arctic/snowy landscape!

Good idea! I hope your turn out well. I did mine the easy way with a glue gun! 😉 I thought about sewing, but then I know it never would have gotten done! Good luck with yours!

I love this idea. Can you post a couple of extra pictures with more sentences you can build with each board, if possible? Good job, and would work well in a small classroom or homeschool too without a lot of storage space or budget…

Hi Sophie. Glad you stopped by! I will try to post some more pictures. I just googled word lists to type up for each part of speech. All Bunny has to do is build them together!

where did you get your sentences? We are going to be studying biomes and my girl loves animals. she has CP and Autism so handwriting is difficult.
